Inspector Reg Burgess has been named the detachment commander, a position he held on an interim basis since June. The 28 year RCMP veteran says he will take a slightly different approach than his predecessor, Steve McVarnock. "He was concentrating more on the crack shacks and grow ops in town. I hope to do a little bit more work with prolific offenders, not just the enforcement side but all the initiatives that go with that." Prolific offenders are persistent offenders who frequently have drug problems and commit crime to support their drug habit. Burgess says officers will do more patrols and checks in the downtown to ensure prolific offenders are following their court conditions, and are getting counselling. Inspector Burgess--- who will be promoted to Superintendent when approval is given by Ottawa--- will be in charge of about 100 RCMP officers, including 57 in Vernon, 7 in Coldstream and 30 in the rural areas. The current Kelowna resident plans on getting a house in Vernon next spring, and would like to settle-in as the commander for "many years."
DON QUIXOTE VS. CITY HALL When an American gets mad, he says "where's my Gun". When a Canadian gets pissed off he says "Where is my pen, I'm going to send a letter to the EDITOR". When the EDITOR won't publish his letter he sets up his own BLOG page. When I received enough support to get a Council Seat the dogma of the establishment became : "Better to have him inside the tent pissing out, than outside pissing in." (Only time will tell !)
