Townhouse Complex Pitched For Landing

Vernon council has given preliminary approval to an official community plan change to allow a higher than usual density development in Okanagan Landing. A company is proposing a 214 unit townhouse and apartment complex at 6468 Okanagan Landing Road. It would need an OCP change from low to medium density, or about 20 units per acre. Councillor Brian Quiring feels it's a good project for that 11 acre site. "It's a fairly high quality building. They are proposing to use geo-thermal heating, a green roof, along with a housing agreement to keep it attainable for the community, so yes, I was very supportive." The agreement would mean 88 of the units would perpetually sell at 15% below market value for the useful life of the buildings. Council has given the proposal two readings, and set a public hearing for October 22nd.
