Charge laid in $6.5 million cocaine seizure near Waldeck

Troy Swanson, 23, from Vernon British Columbia appeared in Provincial Court in Swift Current Monday afternoon in connection with a seizure of 151 kg of cocaine on March 26. Swanson appeared in provincial court  charged with one count of possession  of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Swanson consented to be remanded in custody until Wednesday April 7, at 09:30 in the morning in Swift Current. Swanson was arrested Friday March 26, 2010 at approximately 12:00 pm(noon). The  2010 Ford Fusion Swanson  was driving was westbound on the Trans Canada highway approximately 8 kilometers west of Waldeck. Swanson was the lone vehicle occupant. Swanson's vehicle was stopped  by a member of the Swift Current Traffic Services unit for a violation under the Saskatchewan Traffic Safety Act. Subsequent investigation led to the discovery of 151 kg of cocaine in the vehicle.  The estimated street value of the cocaine is $6.5 million dollars.  The vehicle was subsequently seized during the investigation. The investigation is continuing and with the matter  now before the court no further details will be released at this time.
