Voters in the North Okanagan will have their say on the plan for a new Okanagan Regional Library branch in Vernon. The proposal is for an 11 million dollar loan to the Library through the regional district to put a building on a city owned lot on 30th Avenue in in downtown Vernon. NORD Chairman Herman Halvorson says they had a reason to use the alternative approval process, rather than going to referendum. "Basically why we're going this route is to go through the municipal finance authority. It's a better way for the library to borrow money." Halvorson "doubts" there will be enough opposition to derail the process.
The ballot will begin at 8:30 Wednesday May 26, continuing until July 5 at 4pm. It would require ten percent of the 63,552 voters saying NO to derail it. The "Electoral Response " forms are available at NORD, on their website, or at any member municipality's offices.

What a waste of money in this day and age of technology. This is why the public has nothing but disdain for politicians. Everyone of them is guilty because they "go with the flow and don't speak out" Is this a wise expenditure of $11million-what does Vernon Blog have to say about it?
Students (including pre-school) and seniors probably use the library the most.
A fraction of those millions ought to be granted to educational institutions etc to buy books and technology.
