Greater Vernon Water has moved back to Stage Two watering restrictions following recent rainfall in the region. According to a press release, the North Okanagan Regional District says the tougher, Stage 3 restrictions are to be relaxed immediately. It says that precipitation has ``significantly increased'' the flow of water into upland reservoirs, which serve Duteau Creek customers, as well as Kal and Okanagan Lakes. However the district does warn of uncertain weather making it unlikely Stage 2 will be downgraded and that park irrigation will be reduced in order to aid the situation.
And we're drowning in political verbiage over the water issue. Coldstream councillor Gyula Kiss' says everyone, no matter what source, should be on the same restrictions. Vernon councillor Jack Gilroy has blasted that statement, asking who'll pay for the lost revenue if we return to Stage 3. He says Vernon will pay 75 percent and would end up paying next year for what-could-be a 1.5-million dollar drop in water revenue. Gilroy says the issue has not yet been debated by the regional district board.
