The Vernon Vipers built up a 4-1 lead and then hung on to defeat the Oakville Blades 5-3 in Royal Bank Cup action today in Manitoba. Sahir Gill was Vernon's player of the game with a goal and one assist. Cole Ikkala, Dan Nycholat and Jonathan Milhouse (empty net) also scored for the defending national champs. The Vipers played without centre Connor Jones for the third straight game due to an injury. Vernon improved to 2 and 1 clinching a spot in Saturday's semi finals while Oakville falls to 0-3.
The Vipers close out the round robin against Brockville Ontario Wednesday at noon BC time. 1-1 La Ronge plays 2-0 Dauphin tonight.
