Water Debate on Tap At NORD

Water restrictions are still up for debateImproved water levels for Greater Vernon may lead to some changes in the water restrictions customers are facing. The Greater Vernon Advisory Committee discussed the issue at an in-camera meeting Tuesday. Chairman Wayne Lippert says a recommendation will be before the NORD board today that he says will help mitigate some of the issues created by the stage 3 restrictions. I think it's most of the things that have been recognized in the media, (dealing with) swimming pools, business concerns, tourism concerns and health concerns." Lippert says couldn't be more specific as staff was still working on the recommendation to see what can be changed. He says there was widespread support on GVAC for loosening some of the stage 3 rules. "Yes there was. Everyone was looking at the water levels and what has changed with the weather we've got and what changes may be expected, taking into consideration the usage."

Greater Vernon Water Manager Al Cotsworth says he and other NORD staff will not be making a recommendation on any changes, saying that will be a decision left up to the politicians. NORD will also hear today from a Vernon pool company and Lavington Turf Farms about the impact of the restriction on their businesses.
