It has taken months and three public hearings but Vernon city council has finally approved the Bella Vista West neighbourhood plan. The plan had unanimous approval from the four members of council present for the summer session. Councillor Mary Jo O'Keefe stepped out of the chamber during the vote due to a family conflict-of-interest. After the vote, councillor Bob Spiers said Bella Vista residents appear satisfied with the revisions to the plan, including plans for a public trail from Adventure to Sage Bay. There had been some controversy over the defeated Morning Glory apartment complex for Bella Vista although another complex for Sage Bay has been accepted. Acting mayor Patrick Nichol says the three public hearings were necessary. It allowed them to rule out the controversial Morning Glory apartment complex but allow another at Sage Bay.
