Work begins next week to extract asbestos from the old Vernon medical building on 31st Avenue. City of Vernon building services manager, Ian Currie, says work begins next Monday and is expected to take about a month. He says it will take another month to demolish the building. He says on-site consultants will ensure no asbestos dust is released into the air. The demolition contract has been awarded to Surrey-based Clearview Grinding which came in with a bid of 310-thousand dollars, almost 200-thousand dollars less than the estimate. Currie says the company is the same one slated to knock down the old Coldstream Elementary once work on the new school is finished this September.
