Man shot, assaulted in armed robbery

Castanet Staff - May 14, 2011 / 9:30 am
A 32-year-old Vernon man suffered gunshot wounds and other injuries after he was shot and assaulted during an armed robbery.  RCMP spokesman, Gord Molendyk, says police were called to the 7-11 on 39 Avenue in Vernon shortly after 11 p.m. Friday night.  Molendyk says the victim was sitting in his vehicle when a man jumped into the passenger side, pointed a gun at him and demanded he turn over his wallet.
"The victim jumped from his vehicle as the suspect fired the gun," says Molendyk.  "The victim was hit in the right shoulder area. The victim made his way to the door of the 7-11 where he was then assaulted by two males."  Molendyk says police were able to set up a containment area and, with the help of police dogs and calls from the public, were able to take two suspects into custody.  He says police are currently looking for a third person believed to be involved in the case.  The victim was taken to hospital where he has been treated.  Vernon RCMP are continuing to investigate and ask anyone with information to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
