A raise in pay is not in the cards for Kelowna's mayor and council. The task force charged with reviewing council remuneration has completed its work and submitted its report which council will have a chance to debate. The task force is recommending the mayor's annual indemnity of $89,457 and councilor's annual indemnity of $31,310 all remain unchanged for 2012 and 2013. The report further states that, starting January 1, 2014, salaries of mayor and council be adjusted annually based on the Consumer Price Index. The task force also recommends that a provision which automatically links councilor's indemnity to 35 per cent of that of the mayor be discontinued. It was also recommended the mayor be provided the option of a benefits package as found through the UBCM, Regional District of other such comparative package with 50 per cent of premium coverage paid for by the city. Every three years, prior to an municipal election, council appoints a task force which reviews yearly remuneration of mayor and council. Any new pay structure would not take affect until after the new mayor and council is elected and sworn in. The current council will make a final decision on the recommendations Monday.
DON QUIXOTE VS. CITY HALL When an American gets mad, he says "where's my Gun". When a Canadian gets pissed off he says "Where is my pen, I'm going to send a letter to the EDITOR". When the EDITOR won't publish his letter he sets up his own BLOG page. When I received enough support to get a Council Seat the dogma of the establishment became : "Better to have him inside the tent pissing out, than outside pissing in." (Only time will tell !)
