Lumby Ponders Marijuana Issue

Lumby council is looking into a resolution supporting taxation and regulation of marijuana. Mayor Kevin Acton says after a presentation from the group Stop the Violence BC, council had a good discussion, but members were not ready to make a decision. "What I've asked council to do is deliberate on it, do some research on it for the next two weeks and come back to the table, ready to make a decision at the next council meeting." Acton says it could take some of the criminal element out of the picture. "We had some very favourable conversation around how taxation on marijuana may remove some of the criminal element from it, and also provide some extra tax income to fight the bad guys who are still doing other things." Enderby and Vernon have approved the resolution to the Union of BC Municipalities.
