Update 5:45 pm:
Armstrong's mayor is hoping to hear a suspect has been arrested in a five month old murder case in his city. Chris Pieper will be on hand for a news conference RCMP have called for tomorrow in Armstrong to update their probe into the homicide of 18 year old Taylor Van Diest. Pieper tells Kiss FM, police haven't told him what it will be about but he's optimistic."They just told me to be there. They said they have a significant announcement and that's it. Reporter question: "Are you thinking a suspect has been arrested? Pieper: I kind of hope so, but I don't know." Pieper says residents in his city are still very aware of the case despite five months since the crime occurred. "Every time I'm downtown, they ask me if there's any news. The police keep telling me their investigative crew is continuing to work on it, and I personally have a lot of confidence in that."Pieper says police were able to eliminate 95 percent suspects with the earlier DNA evidence.

Police are ready to provide details of a new development in the investigation into the murder of an Armstrong teenager last October. 18 year old Taylor Van Diest was attacked by an unknown person on Halloween night near the rail tracks on Rosedale Avenue. She died of unspecified injuries in hospital. RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk confirms to Kiss FM, there will be a news conference in Armstrong Thursday afternoon at 1 at City Hall, but would not say anything more. A media release says it will be conducted by the Southeast District Major Crimes Unit. Police have not issued any updates on the case since last November when they released a composite sketch of an unknown man whose DNA was found on Van Diest, the same DNA from an unsolved sexual assault case involving a Kelowna escort agency employee in 2005. At the time, police said the suspect was thought to be around 25 years old, and a resident of the Okanagan.
