Silver Star Mountain Resort |
The man who brought an Australian influence to two of the Okanagan's biggest ski resorts, had died. Desmond Schumann was the patriarch of the family which purchased Kelowna's Big White in 1985, and Vernon's Silver Star in 2001. The Australian resident paid 4.5 million to buy Big White, when it was in receivership. The Schumann family bought Silver Star from majority owner Judd Buchanan. The Schumann's have invested millions of dollars in new lifts and other amenities at both resorts since then. The family's connection is also a big reason why many of the employees at the resorts are from Australia. Desmond Schumann was 94.
