A registered nurse for more than 50 years, Mary Williamson
was named Vernon Woman of the Year Thursday night at the Best Western
Plus Vernon Lodge Hotel. Williamson, 72, opened the first private care
facility, 'Mary's Manor,' in 1987, and has always been an advocate of
private supportive living. She founded the Okanagan Private Supportive
Living Association and still serves on its board. Williamson beat out four other nominees for the honour. Read about the nominees here. More details on the evening are still to come,
and there will be a complete recap of the event from reporter Cara Brady
in Sunday's Morning Star.
