Lumby sawmill saved

Lumby firefighters managed to save the village’s sawmill from going up in flames Friday afternoon. Heavy smoke poured out of Paragon Wood Products’ exterior wall in the second floor of the Shuswap Avenue building when firefighters got the call shortly after 4 p.m. “There is a risk there with sawmills, as we all know,” said fire chief Tony Clayton, who credits his team for containing the damage. The mill is currently not in operation, but crews have been working on the building. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
