Okanagan Landing Fire Department |
The Okanagan Landing Volunteer Firefighters are being asked to become part of the Vernon association. City council has decided not to renew the fire services agreement with the department. Vernon Fire-Rescue Chief Keith Green tells Kiss FMsays it's a small cost saving. "And we end up with a cohesive fire-fighting force under a single command structure." Green says it wasn't a surprise for the volunteer association as the two grups met Tuesday night. "Their reaction was good. They gathered the information and obviously they have to go back to their membership and explain what the service is going to look like from here. It was an amicable meeting." The move would take effect at the end of January, with the chief saying it'll be a busy next six months as they integrate the two departments. The Okanagan Landing department was formed in 1975, operating under contract with the city since amalgamation in 1993.
