Parking meters at Peace Arch Hospital still a problem

By Tracy Holmes - Peace Arch News Published: June 01, 2012 2:00 PM
Parking meters around White Rock’s Peace Arch Hospital still do not accept the new-issue loonies and toonies.  City manager Dan Bottrill confirmed last week that a solution had not been found for the older machines, despite a promise by the supplier, POM (Park-o-Meter), to have things figured out by May 25. Stickers advising customers of the problem have been added to the machines, and Bottrill remains hopeful the situation will be resolved soon. “We’re pushing (the supplier) as much as we can, it’s very important to us,” he said.

Don Quixote Note: I have been told that some of the machines around the Vernon Hospital do not accept the new coins. The City's Parking meters should have been recalibrated to accept the new coins.  (Budget was $77,000). Please leave  a comment if you have a contrary experience.

My husband was at Surrey Memorial with my 5 yr old son who had a head injury. To his surprise they still haven't updated the machines (this is October?) He did have enough change for the first 2 hrs but couldn't exchange enough coins with the nurses for the next 2 hrs. Needless to say we received a ticket! I called to say I would gladly pay the $9 needed and they refused the compromise, saying we are responsible for having the right change?!? How was I to know meters for essential services haven't been changed, considering even the kids rides at the mall accept the new ones? I did escalate to a manager, which of course they haven't replied (possibly waiting for my 2 week grace period to be up?) Hopefully I get a response soon.....since Global news is interested in this story.
