Residents say Old Kamloops Road is a mess, and they want the city of
Vernon to consider improvements in future budget discussions. Area resident Karen Wheeler who lives on Swan Road told council, the road is unsafe to walk or cycle on. She says they're asking for an extra four feet of paved surface
attached to one or both lanes to allow safer walking and cycling, which
she says city staff told her would cost around $150,000. Wheeler says at this point, the ditch along the road is the only safe place to walk. Mayor Rob Sawatzky says there's no money for it this year. "Our budget is set, and it's one of the many parts of our infrastructure that have aged, and been pounded." City staff are currently assessing road conditions around the city
which will be used to set priorities for next year's projects.
