Okanagan Science CentreThe Okanagan Science Centre's request for ongoing funding from local government, will get more discussion. The facility in Polson Park has asked the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee for $150,000 a year, for five years, to cover costs and hire more staff. The board will debate the request in its service review, and during 2013 budget discussions. GVAC director Jim Garlick feels a grant may be the best way to go for next year, as it would allow more time to determine the appropriate level of funding. "We need to also encourage volunteerism in our community. We can't just say, 'Okay, we'll pay for everything there is,' so we have to be careful as we move forward with many of these services." The centre, which attracts 25-thousand visitors a year, does meet the requirements for GVAC funding.
