Residents have called on local politicians to look at buying Heritage Park in Vernon's Bella Vista area. The park --popular for dog owners and others-- could be sold off by the school district as surplus land once targeted for a future school. Resident Andy Hume told Greater Vernon Advisory Committee directors says the park could also host a community garden. "It is in the best interests of all Vernon residents to maintain the usable park space that now exists. Once a green space is gone, it's gone forever," he told the committee. GVAC Chair Mike Macnabb says it seems silly the public should have to buy, what is already public land. "Then it goes back to the philosophy that if the public paid for the lands as school property and then it gets put on the market, do we then turn around and spend more taxpayer dollars that we've already purchased?" Directors recommended Hume also make his presentation to the city of Vernon which will take over control of the park, once the new restructured parks service is finalized. The residents have also started an online petition called "Save Heritage Dog Park."

Since when has it become a priority to provide or buy land for dogs to poop?
The money could be better spent building affordable housing for low income people.
If the Dog owners desire a dog park then install Pay metering machines such as the hospital parking or boat launch facilities have!
