Starling Control up for Renewal at RDNO

Board of Directors Wednesday, January 2, 2013 - 4:00 pm - Regular Agenda C.    DELEGATIONS 1.    Okanagan Similkameen Starling Control Program    Page 11

-Request for continuation of funding for Program that ends on December 31, 2012 (% years)

Don Quixote Note: In 2012 the RDNO budget for starling control was $25,390.  Vernon's taxpayers share of that amount was $13,482.  (Coldstream $3,073) For some odd reason Starling Control unlike the Sterile Insect Release program (S.I.R.) is taxed on BOTH Land and improvements while the S.I.R. is taxed on Land only (plus an orchard parcel tax).

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) is one of the three participating Okanagan regional districts in the Starling Control program.  This program aims to reduce the number of starlings, which are considered to be one of the world's 100 Worst Invasive Species.  The Starling Control program also includes a research component that investigates starling population dynamics.
