A beautification project on a city owned lot has been put on the back burner, perhaps permanently. City council had been considering relocating utilities on the Coldstream Hotel site, to make it more marketable, which councillor Bob Spiers was against from the start. "I guess they found right now is not the time to do it..The cost to do it was pretty prohibitive." The project would have cost taxpayers $570,000. Mayor Rob Sawatzky says the project came in far more expensive than they had anticipated. "$570,000 to change the look of some power lines and utilities. I don't think council has the appetite for that at this time." The city also won't pursue a BC Hydro grant for the project.

The $570,000 was a cost estimate from 2005.
