Vernon council selects sites for art gallery and museum

By Richard Rolke - Vernon Morning Star Published: December 11, 2012 9:00 AM

There's some movement on the cultural front.  The City of Vernon has identified the old flower shop property on 31st Avenue as the home of a new Vernon Pubic Art Gallery while council is calling for the expansion of the existing museum. "I'm happy and we can go forward," said Dauna Kennedy Grant, VPAG executive director. The city was asked by the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee to identify potential sites for the cultural amenties. GVAC members will now determine if they support the locations and if a borrowing referendum will be held to fund construction of the facilities. Both VPAG and the Greater Vernon Museum had hoped for a referendum in April but that was turned down by GVAC so there could be further information gathered and more discussion. Look for more details in Wednesday's Morning Star.
