Foster, Libs Blasted For Turfing AG

Eric FosterA Liberal-dominated committee headed by Vernon's MLA has decided not to renew the appointment of BC's Auditor General. Eric Foster, committee chair, won't say why John Doyle is being turfed, adding he's not legally allowed to say anything.  Foster says the five-member committee needed unanimous consent to renew the six year contract, but the vote was not unanimous. N-D-P leader Adrian Dix says getting rid of Doyle is a bad decision and he's calling on Premier Clark to reconsider, but Clark is backing the committee. Vernon Monashee NDP candidate Mark Olsen is calling on Foster to reconvene the committee and reconsider the decision. "I think it's a big mistake. (Doyle) has done a great job. He's holding the government accountable, serving the public interest," Olsen tells Kiss FM. Scott Anderson, BC Conservative candidate for Vernon-Monashee, says the Liberals are displaying typical arrogance in denying Doyle a second term.  "I can certainly understand why the Liberals don't want to renew this excellent Auditor General's term," said Anderson, "but it's unforgivable to do it and then have the premier run for cover.  Perhaps the committee chair, Mr. Foster, can explain why this move is in the best interests of British Columbians?"
