It's been one year since Greater Vernon hosted the BC Winter Games, and organizers are now ready to announce how about 20 local groups will benefit. Akbal Mund, president of the 2012 Games, says a legacy fund of $117,000 was achieved from the event. "The BC Games gives us $525,000, and of that, whatever we don't spend, we get to keep half, so some of the money came from that," Mund tells Kiss FM. Mund says sponsorships and souvenir sales raised the rest. "We got 100 percent of the souvenir sales before the Games started." He says directors did a great job of staying under budget, including getting over $300,000 of in-kind donations. "For example, Home Hardware, we needed 40,000 pounds of roofing shingles (to hold down gymnastics equipment), and we didn't pay a cent for that. They trucked them in and put them in for us." The presentation of the legacy funds, and which groups will get a share of the cash, will be made next Friday night at the Vantage One Soccer Centre.
