Greater Vernon Water has turned off the Kalamalka Lake water source. Water quality manager Renee Clark says the move is due to increased turbidity in the water, caused by milfoil roto-tilling at the north end of the lake, and there are no health related impacts to customers. Homes normally serviced by Kal Lake water, will be supplied by the Duteau Creek Plant until the rototilling is complete, around March 31st. Customers will be informed when the Kal source is turned back on.

Water service swap by Trevor Rockliffe - Castanet Feb 22, 2013 / 12:37 pm
Greater Vernon Water (GVW) would like to inform customers that the
Kalamalka Lake water source was turned off on Thursday, February 21, due
to increased turbidity in the water. There are no health related affects to our customers. The decision to remove the Kalamalka Lake water source was based on
increased turbidity due to Milfoil rototilling being conducted in the
North end of Kalamalka Lake. Water will be supplied from the Duteau
Creek Water Treatment Plant (DCWTP) supply until the rototilling
on Kalamalka Lake is complete, which will be approximately March 31. GVW
is working with the Okanagan Basin Water Board to find solutions that
meet both Milfoil removal and water quality objectives. Customers who are not normally on the DCWTP will notice that the water
is much softer and the water has a low alkalinity and pH. This may be of
interest to those customers who have in-home water treatment systems or
aquariums. Staff continually monitor water quality and will notify customers if any further changes occur. Customers will be informed when the Kalamalka Lake water source is turned back on. For further information, please call 250-550-3700.
