Local residents could be voting on funding for a larger Greater Vernon Museum in the fall of 2014. That's the timeline officials with the museum's board say they would be comfortable with. Chairman Ian Hawes says they need that much time to draw up designs, finalize costs, and convince the public about the need for a larger facility. "We need to sell this so it will be approved in a landslide," Hawes told the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee. GVAC director Jim Garlick is pleased the group isn't pushing ahead too quickly, but warns them to keep the lines of communication open. "This (building) is embedded in the city of Vernon, so they need to have those conversations, and a process has to be put in place so people are not working in a silo and they're communicating with everybody they need to," Garlick tells Kiss FM. Hawes adds they've accepted the city's suggestion to expand on their current site in the civic complex, saying there's a chance to add another 30,000 square feet at the back of the current building. "It's a good location. We really hope we can create something the community can be proud of," says Hawes.
