Vancouver Coun. Adriane Carr has sought legal advice after a motion
she put forth requesting information on the financial impact of a
controversial Vancouver park board plan was blocked by the city manager. Carr
told The Vancouver Sun Friday Vancouver city manager Penny Ballem
quashed the motion on the grounds it could jeopardize forthcoming
negotiations between the park board and the community centre
associations affected by the divisive plan. "I have now secured legal counsel for myself to provide me with a legal opinion on (Ballem's) authority to do that," Carr said. The
motion requested park board general manager Malcolm Bromley to report
to council within two months on how the proposed changes could affect
the city's bottom line if there is a drop in volunteer hours at
community centres. (more)
