Boaters are advised to watch out for a storm outfall pipe in Okanagan Lake in the Vernon area. The pipe has come loose and floated to the surface below Tavistock near Adventure Bay.
It's marked with buoys, but it is still a hazard that boaters should avoid, and go around. City staff are working with a consultant to re-establish the pipe in a lake right of way, but it's not known when that will take place.
Ed Stranks, the city's manager of engineering development, says, "We don't know how close the rest of pipe is to the surface at this time. We are in the process of investigating that. The city is requesting boaters exercise caution and stay away from the area until works are complete." Stranks says boaters should especially watch out between the shore and where the pipe is floating at the surface and go well around the pipe." A diving company has been contacted and will be examining the pipe to determine the works required.
