RCMP, fire and ambulance are in downtown Vernon, dealing with a clandestine drug lab that was found. The  inactive lab was found by a cleaning lady this morning in a one bedroom apartment in the Kalamalka Hotel on 30th Ave. A team of police lab experts determined from photos there are substances of concern that need to be seized from the lab which is described as small and unsophisticated. RCMP Corporal Gerry Kovacs says the lab will be dismantled. Vernon Fire Rescue officials discuss their plans outside the Kalamalka Hotel where an inactive drug lab was found (P McIntyre)"Public safety is a paramount concern when dealing with these types of investigations and all possible steps are being exercised to minimize risk to all involved and the environment.  There is no risk to public as all the chemicals and contaminated matter will be packaged and sealed inside the affected apartment before being removed.  A professional chemical disposal company will handle all the chemicals in an environmentally friendly manner," says Kovacs.   Kovacs says the investigation is ongoing, with no arrests to this point. 30th Ave from the Kal Sports Bar to Nolan's Pharmasave has been blocked off, and likely will be for the rest of the day, but all the businesses are open in that area, and fire officials say there's no danger to the public.
