Vernon council has gone for the cheaper option for the new relocatable washroom set to open near Cenotaph Park next month. The 54-thousand dollar building will provide a 'place to go' for people using the downtown bus terminal and attending events in that area. It will cost the city 55-thousand dollars a year just to clean and maintain the structure, which councillor Mary Jo O' Keefe called 'crazy expensive.' "This is a tremendous amount of money, and to use it on this is not fiscally responsible," commented O'Keefe. Council opted not to keep the facility open until 3 am on weekends to cater to bar patrons, which would have added an extra 15 grand. Councillor Juliette Cunningham didn't think people out late drinking would use the washrooms anyway. "Those that are too wasted are not going to go out of their way to find this washroom," she said.
