The City of Kelowna paid out $1M more in wages in 2012 than it did the previous year. Figures, released by the city Thursday as part of its Annual Report, show wages paid out in 2012 hit $58.8M compared with $57.8M the previous year. When you factor in mayor and council remuneration ($232,000) and employer paid benefits ($6.58M), the total comes to $65.67M. A further $542,281 was paid out in expenses. As required under the Community Charter, the city is not only required to itemize all expenditures including wages, but also must identify those employees who take home a minimum $75,000 each year. In 2011, 253 employees took home $75,000 or more. That included 99 on the management side, 93 firefighters and 61 CUPE employees. That number increased by only three in 2012 to 256 including 101 management, 96 firefighters and 59 CUPE employees.  There are 59 employees who earned $100,000 or more in 2012 (36 management and 23 firefighters). City Manager Ron Mattiussi takes home the largest paycheque at slightly more than $254,000 annually.Four other upper management employees at City Hall also took home more than $150,000, including:  Paul Macklem, Corporate Sustainability GM - $188,000
