Cost For Smart Meter Holdouts

It won't be cheap for BC Hydro customers who don't want a smart meter.  The Crown corporation has sent letters to customers, saying those that choose to have smart meters installed but have the radio transmitter shut off, will be charged a one-time fee of $100, plus $20 a month for manual readings. Hydro says those who don't confirm a choice by December 1 will automatically be charged a $35 monthly fee and left with their old meter. There's about 60-thousand holdouts, while about 1.6 million, or 96 percent of Hydro's customers, have accepted the new meters.
