A deranged woman, well known to police, caused quite a stir Saturday afternoon in Vernon when she was witnessed by several people walking through town armed with a rifle pointing it at bystanders. Reportedly aiming it at a child and directing threats at every person she passed. One man was shot with what turned out to be a pellet gun, but was wearing thick enough clothing that he did not receive any bruising or injury. RCMP Spokesman Gord Molendyk says the Vernon Detachment GD members along with the Police Service Dog Unit responded. They were forced to shut down several streets so they could determine what they were dealing with. The 51-year-old woman was eventually arrested with the assistance of a police dog, at the door to her home in the 3300 block of 26th St. The RCMP located a pellet gun at the scene. She is still being held in custody and faces charges of Possessing A Weapon For A Dangerous Purpose, Assault With A Weapon and Uttering Threats are being considered.
