More discussion is expected today on the plan for a public vote on improved arts and cultural facilities in Vernon. Regional district staff are recommending the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee approve 60-thousand dollars to hire consultants to confirm construction and operating costs for an expanded museum and new art gallery. The funding would also be used to develop public education material for the vote. The cultural groups are pushing local politicians to hold a referendum next spring for an estimated 17 million dollars in projects.
The two groups have been asked to cover the extra 50-thousand dollars to hold the vote, separate from next fall's civic elections.
