RCMP in Vernon say a program targeting prolific offenders continues to reap dividends. Superintendent Reg Burgess says in a report to council, the latest crime stats are down for the second straight quarter: 8% in criminal code cases and a further 17% drop in property crime. Burgess says the program monitors, tracks and pursues people in the community who are causing the greatest harm. "These intelligence led policing strategies provide effective deployment of limited resources and ensures sustainability of the services we provide to our community," writes Burgess. The RCMP boss also says maintaining a visible presence on roadways is yielding positive results. "Vernon North Okanagan members have increased their road checks by 58% this quarter over last year, recording 38. Impaired driving investigations were also on the rise, up 17.6% increase for the quarter." Burgess says Vernon North Okanagan police investigated three fatal collisions in the third quarter, a decrease from four in 2012.
