Kamloops, CUPE agree on new contract

The City of Kamloops and CUPE Local 900 have reached an agreement on a new five-year contract, with staff ratifying the new agreement with 74% support on Wednesday. Council approved the agreement in December. The new agreement, effective Jan. 1 of this year, will expire Dec. 31, 2018. It includes wage increases of 1.00 percent in the first year, 1.50 percent in the second year, 2.00 percent in the third year, 1.00 percent in the fourth year, and 2.00 percent in the last year of the contract. Contract language was also clarified and updated. The parties commenced bargaining in early October, with numerous meetings in the last several months. As with the previous contract, the negotiating teams were able to reach an agreement prior to the current contract's expiry on December 31, 2013.(more)
