The amount paid for the former West Vernon Elementary school has been released. "The sale price was $1,474,500, less the legal fees," says Vernon School Board chair Bil Turanski. Turanski says the building was bought by the North Okanagan Child Care Society. He says the funds will be likely be used for upgrading the school district offices on 15th Street. "The Ministry (of Education) has agreed it can be used for that," says Turanski. Turanski says the buildings at that site could certainly use an upgrade. "I've been a trustee for over 20 years and they've been there during that period, and they were old portable classrooms, so they're pretty old, 30 years at least." He says plans for the upgrade are being drawn up. "We're hoping to do it as quickly as possible."
