Pickleball enthusiasts have struck out. The Regional District of North Okanagan has decided that pickleball lines will not be added permanently to the Paddlewheel Park tennis court. “Start adding a bunch more lines at a tennis court and it’s confusing,” said Rick Fairbairn, board vice-chairperson and a tennis player. RDNO staff say that Paddlewheel Park is already too congested with other activities to allow for regular pickleball games. “It would displace existing users from the park,” said Keith Pinkoski, parks planner. However, the Vernon Pickleball Club will be able to hold special events at Paddlewheel Park with temporary lines. The club recently received approval from the City of Vernon to use MacDonald Park while Coldstream will let the club use the Middleton Mountain tennis courts.
