Reclaimed Water Gets Second Look

Written by Peter McIntyre 107.5 KISSFM Thursday, 12 June 2014 06:00
Vernon will ask its regional partners to take another look at using reclaimed water at the new community sports field. The idea was felt to be not feasible by G-VAC directors last week due to the connection costs, but Mayor Rob Sawatzky says city staff say the cost for potable water will be much higher than RDNO thought. "Having this new information and much higher cost, certainly good process would say, let's have our discussion again and see perhaps if the return on investment makes a lot more sense," says Sawatzky. Sawatzky says treated water at the site could cost 18-thousand dollars a year under current rates, far more than the earlier one-thousand dollar estimate.

I agree that a second look would be a good idea. $1000.00/yr to 18,000/yr for water that is quite a jump! Perhaps they need to look more closely at the entire operating budget for this new facility? Perhaps there are other estimates that need a second look.
