SCOTT ANDERSON ENTERS CONSERVATIVE PARTY OF CANADA NOMINATION RACE IN NORTH OKANAGAN SHUSWAP

OKANAGAN— Scott Anderson announced today that he will be seeking the Conservative Party of Canada nomination as candidate for the North Okanagan Shuswap riding in anticipation of the 2015 federal election.

Anderson is a long-time Okanagan resident, business owner, and commissioned officer in the Canadian Forces Reserves. He has an Honours Degree (First Class) in Political Studies and owns a corporate communications business that serves North America, UK, and Australia. He sits on several boards and committees and is a member of the Silver Star Rotary Club, Vernon Chamber of Commerce Policy Committee, and Toastmasters. Anderson is a lifelong conservative with extensive experience in politics at all three levels of government. He has served as a conservative campaign manager in two federal elections, a Legislative Assistant for a Reform MP in Ottawa, and currently serves on a municipal advisory committee. He is a long-time member of the local Conservative Party of Canada Electoral District Association and has been a champion of conservative causes at the federal, provincial and municipal level for years. "This seat is considered to be a safe seat for the federal Conservatives," said Anderson. "Whether that's true or not, it means that competition for the Conservative candidacy will be strong. It's crucial that the candidate who is ultimately chosen be a true conservative with the credentials to prove it, and not simply someone looking for a job." Anderson also believes it's important to represent everyone in the riding and not just one part of it. "This riding is not only Vernon and Lumby," said Anderson. "Nor is it only Salmon Arm and Chase. I intend to build a broad coalition of people from across the region and seek input from everyone no matter where they live in the riding." In keeping with this philosophy Anderson has asked Tom Birch, a well respected public figure from Salmon Arm, to act as his campaign manager and advisor. "I am honoured that Tom has agreed to put his considerable talents to work for my campaign," said Anderson. "He is widely respected in the Salmon Arm area and will help bring forward the concerns of people in the Shuswap." "Scott is someone with experience, integrity and drive," said Tom Birch. "Over the past few years I've had the opportunity to work with Scott and I'm impressed with his knowledge, passion, and conservative values. I can think of no one better suited to represent the people of the North Okanagan than Scott." Anderson prides himself on an understanding of people from both the blue collar and white collar world. He owned and operated a mid-sized construction company for 10 years prior to entering university, and has worked in a steel mill, on a farm, and as a roughneck on an oil rig. He currently maintains a small trucking business in addition to his work in corporate communications and understands the need to be able to connect with people from all walks of life. "I had my first taste of federal politics over two decades ago when I arrived in Ottawa as a legislative assistant at the same time Darryl Stinson (former MP) arrived as an newly minted Member of Parliament," said Anderson. "Now it's time to put that experience to work for the people of the North Okanagan, and I ask them to place their trust in me."
