Vernon Rules Against Owner-Occupied Suites

Written by Peter McIntyre 107.5 KISSFM Thursday, 12 June 2014 06:02
Vernon council has followed the advice of its lawyers, and won't require property owners to reside in single detached homes with secondary suites. Mayor Rob Sawatzky says there's been noise and parking problems in some communities with absentee landlords. "That will be what we'll be monitoring. If we see that there are complaints in the neighborhood, and in our desire to provide affordable housing we have creating problems for the neighbors, then we will deal with the issues as they come," Sawatzky tells Kiss FM. Sawatzky says making it mandatory for the owner to live at the site, would not have survived a court challenge.
