You can see The Interview on the big screen in Vernon and Salmon Arm starting Friday. After Americans got their chance to watch the B-grade comedy in theatres last week, people in the Okanagan can see it at the Towne Cinema and the Salmar Grand Theatre this weekend, according to Sony Pictures. The company announced the film will open in 27 theatres across the country. Sony cancelled plans to show the Seth Rogen-James Franco comedy depicting the assassination of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un after major theatre chains refused to screen the movie, following threats from hackers. The film started playing in some U.S. independent theatres after a wave of criticism over the decision, including from President Barack Obama. Sony also released the movie online. The venues in Vernon and Salmon Arm are independent theatres not affiliated with movie-house chains like Cineplex or Landmark Cinemas. Other Canadian communities that will show the movie include Surrey, Calgary, Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Williams Lake, Red Deer, Peace River, and Portage La Prairie, Man.
