It's still too soon to say how much all the snow removal will cost the city of Vernon, but the mayor says last week's major snowstorm has generated very few complaints. Akbal Mund says given that it was the city's biggest snowfall in almost 80 years -- with about 40 cm's -- the crews have done an excellent job. "I know some people complained. There was some, very few, but you just have to wrap your head around it and realize how much snow had to be trucked off the streets and taken to a place to dump it, at sites out by the airport and in the Commonage. That takes time," says Mund. Mund says the clean-up continues a week later, and he says the final bill for the job may not be known for several weeks. Mund says he has received just five complaints about the snow clearing. "We had more complaints about the first snowfall (back in December)," he says. Councillor Brian Quiring agrees, saying the crews have been "fantastic." "Given the amount of equipment we have, they've done a great job, and we've received very few complaints, so that tells you that the people are generally pretty satisfied," says Quiring.
