A familiar face has once again climbed the ranks at the Coldstream Fire Department as chief. Shane Code left the volunteer position of chief in November for a paid position in Saskatchewan at the Estevan Fire Department. The members elected David Sturgeon to take on the position of chief, one he held in 2011. “I look forward to the long haul and hope to keep this position for many years, we have a strong team elected this year and I look forward to serving with them,” said 32-year-old Sturgeon, who is serving his ninth year with the fire department. The position was also sought by Fiona Morgenthaler Code, who will retain her previous role as assistant chief. Sturgeon is eager to build on the strong relationship the department has built with the District of Coldstream over the last couple years, “and see where we can take this hall.” His priority is to implement a long-term plan to ensure members, new and old, know exactly what the objectives of the department are. “Coldstream has a rich history and I want to keep that alive,” said the husband and father who works at CK Design and Nufloors.“With current regulations coming in fast and furious I want to stay ahead of the curve and continue being a forward thinking department.”
