It took a coin toss to determine the next chairperson of the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee. Incumbent Juliette Cunningham and director Jim Garlick were both nominated for the top job for 2015 Thursday, and after two tie votes, Cunningham won with the flip of a coin. “We all work together pretty well,” said Cunningham when asked about a potential division on the board. “We have a lot of significant issues to address this year.” Among them are the master water plan, the master culture plan and determining the future of the art gallery, the museum and the Civic Arena ice sheet. Cunningham, a Vernon director, admits all of the projects come with a financial cost, but she says such amenities are important for the community. “We should have been addressing this as we went along,” she said of recreational and cultural infrastructure. “It will be a challenge for the politicians and residents.” Garlick, a Coldstream director, was acclaimed as GVAC vice-chaiperson.
