ST. ALBERT, Alta. - Two RCMP officers sustained "significant injuries" when they were shot in a community northwest of Edmonton, and are being treated in hospital while police search for an armed suspect. St. Albert RCMP say the two officers were shot early Saturday morning during an investigation that led to "an interaction with a civilian" in southeast St. Albert. "Any time our members have been shot and are in hospital we consider it serious," said Insp. Gibson Glavin. "It's an ongoing investigation, we're still pursuing and seeking out an armed and dangerous suspect." RCMP have described the suspect as a white man, aged 25 to 30, wearing a two-toned blue striped jacket and jeans. Police have asked people to avoid the area southeast of the Sturgeon Valley Golf Club and say they should not approach the suspect if spotted. The names of the officers and the extent of their injuries have not been released. RCMP say they cannot release more information as the shootings remain part of an active investigation. Police are asking anyone with information to contact them immediately.
