The Regional District of the North Okanagan has approved a 2 percent hike on local water rates. The hike should add some $360-thousand dollars to the reserve fund that sits at $15-million right now....the money to be put towards future water projects. BX-Silver Star director Mike Macnabb says Greater Vernon Water has a user pay system with a fixed block rate of about $100 per quarter, and then the 2% now added to any water used over and above that. " If you look at it from that perspective, the two percent is across the board for everybody. Those that use more water, obviously they have the fixed fee and the two percent on top of the more expensive water as you use more of it." Macnabb says a number of projects that were planned for last year and weren't completed and have now been rolled over to this coming year.
