Water Plan Review Reps Approved

Local politicians have agreed to the make-up a public committee that will provide input into a review of Greater Vernon's master water plan. The 'stakeholders advisory committee' will have 14 members, four of which will be from the group that pays most of the costs, residential customers. The rest will be a cross section of water users, and one member of the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee. GVAC chair Juliette Cunningham says the committee could start meeting next month. "We will start seeking applications for those positions and then once we've decided on the committee, we may have to be a little flexible on our timelines, but it was in July that we were hoping to start our meetings," says Cunningham. Terry Mooney from "Citizens for Change to the Master Water Plan" would like a say on the committee. "We have been vocal and we have been moving this discussion forward, so we should be included in that in some fashion," Mooney tells Kiss FM. The committee positions will be voluntary, with meetings held monthly over a six month period. The members will include one GVAC director who will act as the SAC chair, two agricultural reps, two high water users from the non-domestic class, two non domestic that provide services to sensitive customers, such as VJH, the school district or a seniors home, one rep from a major industrial user, four from the residential user class, one from the developer class, and one from a local service group. A staff idea to have one rep from a local special interest group was eliminated and moved instead to residential, as directors felt it would be hard to choose a group for that.
